The plants for sale are mature plants between 0.5" and 1". They may flower within a year if given optimal conditions. The plant will be shipped bare root with no soil.
Pinguicula esseriana is an easy species suitable for beginners. This is a TINY dwarf species grows up to 1" in diameter and has light purple flowers that have a faint lemony fragrance. This species has an interesting life cycle in that the leaves change to a non-carnivorous more succulent texture and the rosette becomes smaller and more compact during cool and dry winter conditions. Plants grow their carnivorous leaves in the summer with warm and moist conditions. It is possible to grow these plants in their summer leaves all year round. Pinguicula esseriana likes bright light. The leaves will elongate if grown in the shade.
Butterworts should be planted in a mix of 50% vermiculite and 50% perlite. They will also do well in 100% vermiculite, or any other general purpose carnivorous plant mix. Do not plant butterworts in potting mix for houseplants or fertilize them as this can kill them.
