Description
Up for auction/sale is a rarely found vintage matchbook which was produced for Beech Aircraft Corporation, with a beautifully embossed cobalt blue and gold Beechcraft "B" on the cover. I can't date these matches specifically, but according to a match collectors website, the Universal "MatchTone" trademark was only used from 1980-1987.All of the text on the matchbook is listed fully at the end of this description.
By 1985, smoking was going out of fashion in business, but style had not, so this metallic gold on blue design, definitely lends a bit of class to this matchbook, making it a great vintage accent piece in any collection of aviation merchandise and gear.
It doesn't show very well, but the "Beech Aircraft Corporation" by the front staple, is also embossed two-tone (blue on gold) lettering. (see last picture)
The matchbook is in excellent NOS (New-Old Stock) condition, measuring (closed) roughly 2" square, 1 15/16" tall, and contains 28 matches.
I have described this matchbook as best I can, but to augment my description I have provided several high-resolution images of this matchbook from varying angles to allow for a detailed review of quality, condition, and desirability.
This will be packaged with care to best ensure this rarely offered book of matches arrives as pictured and described.
If you have any questions, additions, corrections, or concerns, feel free to message me.
The text on the matchbook is as follows:
An embossed two toned"Beech Aircraft Corporation" by the front staple, a two-tone embossed "B" (Beechcraft logo) on the cover, "Universal Match Wichita" on the fold between the staple", "Be safe close cover before striking", "Beechcraft, Today's finest, most complete line of high performance business and personal airplanes", and "Wichita, Kansas, U.S.A." on the interior cover", "MatchTone, Manufactured by, Universal Match St. Louis, Reg US Pat Off" behind the matches, and "Service Worldwide Since 1932".
A little about the MatchTone trademark from a match collectors website:
Matchtone -- A Universal trademark whose matchcovers had contrasting types of material on either side of the striker. Production was begun in 1980, and halted in 1987. There are at least 650 varieties known. Advertisers could order any of eight different combinations of material.
