    Description

ARTIFACT: Beautiful large bronze enameled nurse badge from Hounslow Hospital, Middlesex London and named and dated 1944 on reverse. Closed in 1977 and demolished in the late 1980's, the hospital was originally established 1875. During WWII the Hospital became part of the Emergency Medical Scheme (EMS). The hospital had a total of 97 beds and 30 of them were designated as EMS beds, those to remain open for the treatment of soldiers injured in the war. The badge features a red enameled coat of arms depicting a yellow Griffin-like creature surrounded by three white circles with red Maltese crosses and reads: "HOUNSLOW HOSPITAL" beneath. The reverse shows the name and date: "H. MAHLER 1944". Perhaps the nurse who wore this badge tended to wounded soldiers of WWII.
