    Description

You're bidding on what I believe to be a bookend, but good size and appearance to stand alone as a decorative sculpture - about 8" X  4 1/2" and 5" tall - Dated 1915, signed "S. Morani" and marked with the Armor Bronze shield mark on the back side. Great depiction of a roaring lion crouched on a rock ledge - solid at 4 1/2 lbs. Nice applied patinated finish with a bit of verdigris.
Salvatore Morani was an Italian-born sculptor who emigrated to the United States in 1905 at the age of 31 - He completed many designs for Armor Bronze. Armor Bronze manufactured bronze clad bookends and decorative metalware from about 1890 into the 1940s - first in New York City, and later in Taunton, MA. Known for high quality and artistry, they remain collectible to this day.
Note some condition issues - mainly a few small spots of rubbing wear to the patination where some bronze shows. A couple of small bumps, and a bit of yellowish soil on the lion's backside. Overall, though, nice strong appearance.
Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
