Description
Antique Anglo / Indian small storage box - pre WW1 colonial era - looks to be teak or sheesham hardwood with a LOT of hammered brass inlay scroll work - edges are brass trimed and sides have brass anchors - everything hand made and filed - hinges and lock ( lock works and has never been forced and is original ) semi easy to find a key as a handcuff key will work it ( not the toy ones but a real police issue key ) not included - a small amount of wood shrink and some ripples to the edge banding - the front of the box has two small missing pieces of missing brass inlay - clever design braided wire is hammered in to a design and sanded smooth to give a smooth rope effect - the base has a very old piece of very fine wool glued on ( not original but nice and left in place ) easy to remove if wished - it is old style hoof glue and comes off pretty easily - on the corners of the box base are small holes as if it had little feet at one time ? - they were intentionally put in when made and served some purposebox measures 6 1/4 deep 8 wide 4 1/4 wide outside - the body is 1/2 inch thick to all sides and lid - base is 1/4 thick - it may have had a liner as all sides and lid inside are smooth finished but bottom is rougher a bit
non smoker owned always and clean - ALL original never restored or refinished - inside has a nice wood / clove type smell - hinges tight and lid lines up correctly - not loose / doesnt pivot - very high skill level and many hours of work involved - not Imperial level but good high end a infantry Captain would purchase for someone special - far above touristy items usually seen after ww2 / India independence
